We used to have fantastic repartee lurid with references to obscure crimes and
villains like Micky Ishmael or Big H which hardly anyone would appreciate. 
Over the past few years our conversations got shorter and shorter as his memory 
went and his pain increased. 

Because of his crime insights, Ian had some very iffy acquaintances. 
He was several times invited to join a raid, which he of course would absolutely not do. 
Years ago he told me how he was a few paces behind two geezers 
who didn't realise he could hear them. They were casually discussing whether 
he could be trusted, and whether they should rub him out or not.
